Many of my dreams and ambitions for the future involve activities and habits that are different from my habits and activities of today. I spend a lot of time inside my familiarity zone, but there is limited learning or growth happening here. All master requires time and lots of practice; for these things the familiarity zone is my friend (although, there has to be some degree of unfamiliarity in the 'familiar' things we do, in order to learn more about them), but life requires both. While I have been knuckling down recently and working towards my goals, I think it has been some time since I exposed myself to scenarios that test me in novel ways.
When I was a kid I used to think that maturing would be forcing myself to give up things that I enjoyed for the sake of 'growing up'. As I've gotten older, I've discovered that I'm naturally willing to let go of past habits and behaviors that don't contribute to my growth. Not all of them however.. some times you really do have to make sacrifices.
